The new generation of EBA (Emergency Brake Assist) increases the safety offered by MAN vehicles even further and considerably reduces the risk of traffic accidents. The Emergency Brake Assist detects emergency braking situations and warns the driver. If the driver does not react, emergency braking is activated.
Following a time delay, the continuous brakes activated by the MAN BrakeMatic take the strain off the service brake. The continuous brakes are applied at the same rate at which the service brake is released. This provides the ideal interaction of the braking systems and their components.
Traffic area monitoring and intervention during emergency situations
The emergency brake assist (EBA) combines information from radar sensors installed on the front end of the vehicle with data from the camera integrated in the windscreen. Thanks to this sensor fusion, the system can detect dangerous situations even more quickly and securely, and initiate emergency braking in case of serious danger sooner. Camera and radar sensor permanently monitor the traffic area in front of the vehicle: Distances, positions and speeds of vehicles in front are detected.
If there is a risk of collision, the driver is initially warned by a visual and acoustic signal. If the driver fails to react, the emergency brake assistant autonomously activates emergency braking. In this way, rear-end collisions can be avoided demonstrably and the consequences of accidents significantly reduced.
During emergency braking, the emergency stopping signal (ESS) is activated in addition to the brake lights. The hazard light system signals the emergency situation to surrounding vehicles by an increasing flashing frequency thereby reducing the risk of a rear-end collision.
The Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) with sensor fusion is part of the standard equipment on all MAN vehicles and fulfils all legal requirements. As standard, the Emergency Brake Assist cannot be switched off.
The MAN BrakeMatic intelligent braking management ensures the optimum work allocation between the service and continuous brakes of your MAN truck. This guarantees you superior, low-wear braking at all times - even on long steep inclines.
Reacts before anything happens: The MAN AttentionGuard detects early signs of reduced driver attention or noticeable changes in steering behaviour - particularly deviating from the lane - and provides a warning before dangerous situations can arise.
The adaptive cruise control (ACC Stop & Go) controls the speed of the truck and maintains a safe distance to the traffic ahead. In heavy Stop & Go traffic, it also takes over moving off and braking automatically.
